Inclusion group:
In March 2015, the group: “Leisure on the Oberkassel adventure playground” for children with intellectual disabilities was founded as a cooperation project between the Comenius Gymnasium and the adventure playground.
The desire to create areas in which people with and without disabilities can meet came from the one-week supervision of the basketball athletes with mental disabilities during the Special Olympics week in May 2014. The encounters and experiences with the athletes were a very special, intense experience for the students and they regretted that they have no contact with people with intellectual disabilities in their everyday life.
Since the Comenius Gymnasium has been working together for many years with the Oberkassel adventure playground, the idea of creating a meeting place on the adventure playground was born.
The inclusion group is a great asset for everyone involved. Some of the children now also come to the adventure playground on other days of the week and move freely and independently and, like all other children, take advantage of the wide range of offers on our adventure playground. Through the group, the children get to know the place, the environment, the conditions and, above all, other children. Inclusion is happening.
The students of the Comenius Gymnasium, who support the children with inclusion needs and look after them with great pleasure, are instructed by Tulio. Tulio, who took over the project supervision, has been working on the adventure playground for many years.
It is currently financed from the funds of the dependent foundation for the promotion of youth care.
